A man has killed his one-month-old baby and broke the left leg of his son after quarrelling with his wife, which has left a village in Makueni County in shock.

Witnesses Thursday told Nation that the 25-year-old suspect arrived home at Ulu in Malili Mukaa District at 7.30pm on Wednesday and picked a quarrel his wife.

When the 22-year-old woman told him to cool down, he snatched the baby girl from her arms and slammed it on their bed.

Breaking a leg

The infant hit the edge of their bed and died on the spot.

The attacker then followed his two-year-old son, who was crying for help, and hit him with a plank of wood on the left leg, breaking it.

Area police chief Ferdinad Nyongesa Thursday said the public, who responded to the woman’s wails and screams, descended on the man with blows and other weapons.

He narrowly escaped death when Administration Police officers from the nearby Ulu police rescued him.

Mr Nyongesa said the suspect was taken to Machakos district hospital, where he was admitted together with his son.

Once discharged from the hospital, he will be charged with murder, according to the police chief.

The body of the infant was taken to the hospital morgue.
