South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW) has appointed Obi Asika, CEO of Storm 360 Records as a speaker and panelist for its forthcoming Music and Media conference.
The South by Southwest, which is the largest music and media conference in America, is an iconic event. Through this means, Mr Asika working closely with Spinlet on the advisory board would showcase Nigerian and African artists as he continues the push to bring the urban sounds of Africa to mainstream western platform.
Mr Asika says: “We are now entering the next phase of the push and as we continue to engage the major markets, we hope to learn about technology which will aid us in combating piracy; relationships which will enable us to monetize our content and those who will give our content access to the global markets,” he said.
“…all I can say is get ready world, the Africans are coming.”
Asika believes that the music content across Africa is world-class but there’s need for a global push to enable the world to hear and feel ‘us.’ He hopes corporate Nigeria and Africa would come along on the ride. “These are seminal moments for the Nigerian and African Music Industry and all I can say is get ready world, the Africans are coming,” he said.
