The Governor of Rivers State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum; Chibuike Amaechi, has declared that the ‘oil rich state’ moniker used for oil producing states is now false because a number of the state’s oil wells have been transferred to other states by the Nigerian Boundary commission (NBC).
According to the governor, “Rivers State is the only state in Nigeria whose boundaries are changed every month by the NBC.”
The governor who was a guest on a special edition of our breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily in Port Harcourt, again affirmed his position against the call for the local government autonomy as he also denied any endorsement for vice-presidential ambition in the 2015 general elections.
He insisted that LGAs should remain under the state government as a federating unit.
The governor who is on his second term as the Governor of Rivers State also downplayed his rumoured plan to run as a Vice-Presidential candidate in the next general elections. Some posters of Mr Amaechi are currently being posted across some cities in the northern region of the country ahead of the next general elections.
