Is Tambuwal setting himself up to become Sokoto governor?

Reports from online news website, Sahara Reporters indicate that Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Speaker of House of Representatives may be positioning himself to succeed the current governor of his home  state, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

Speculations over his political allegiance reached a high yesterday when the Speaker attended a All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting in Sokoto fuelling rumours that he has finally dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tambuwal, who has been viewed by observers as having a close relationship with political characters in the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), denied the rumours saying he is still in consultation with stakeholders as to his next political move.

Sources who spoke to Sahara Reporters affirm that the Speaker will soon drop the PDP so as to effectively pursue his alleged ambition of becoming the next governor of the state.

The source said, “I can confirm that the Speaker will soon officially dump PDP and as well commence pursuing his governorship ambition to be governor of Sokoto state.

“He has the blessings and total support of [Wamakko] and all that matter in the politics [of the area] have been consulted. He will run against the deputy governor who refused to join APC but stayed back in the PDP.”
