Temi Mwale makes the Forbes 30 Under 30 list following London’s Young Person of the Year Award

Earlier this year, Temi Mwale made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for her community project: 4Front which works with UK youths helping them stay away from gangs.

Mwale, 21, who grew up in Grahame Park Estate, Colindale started the Project in memory of murdered friend, Marvin Henry and now devotes her time to stop youth violence. Established in 2012 first as “Get Outta The Gang” when she was just 16-years-old, 4Front evoled into a youth-led social enterprise working to understand and reduce serious youth violence by empowering young people.”I am humbled to have made the list and to be recognised for making an impact through social entrepreneurship,” she said.

“Everything I do is in the memory of Marvin, but many more young lives have been lost since he was killed. I do believe we can end serious youth violence by addressing its root causes, such as trauma. I want to show young people anything is possible, don’t let where you come from determine where you are going. I grew up on a council estate just like you.”

Last month, Sky News Home Affairs Correspondent, Mark White covered the issues of London Police Stop and search tactics to curb the knife crime menace, however, many claimed minority communities (mostly black youths) were often unfairly targeted. Temi Mwale reacting to the statement of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary who said black people were four times more likely to face a stop and search. said: “Stop and search has been an issue for the black community for decades. A police officer may say that they’re not intentionally stopping young black people, but this is the context and history we have got.

“While officers may not be trying to single out young black people, the reality is that, as an institution, the Metropolitan Police does single out young black people and that is a problem.”

Named IARS Peacemaker of the Year, Mwale is the winner of the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Award and David Cameron’s Points of Light Award, London’s Young Person of the Year.  She is an LSE undergraduate law student who attracts over 1000 young people to her workshops.
