The ‘Eze Ndigbo title’ controversy resumes in Ibadan

The 11 High Chiefs that make up the Olubadan-in-council, on Thursday, warned Alex Alozie to desist from bearing the title- Eze Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo State.

The warning was contained in a letter signed by a lawyer, Oladepo Abiodun.

The letter, which was addressed to the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, reads in part that: “Our instruction is to make it clear to you that your action and that of your group you purport to represent in Ibadan and Oyo State in general amounts to an act of insubordination, illegality and a calculated attempts to cause chaos and breed a state of anarchy in the state.”

Responding to the letter from the Olubadan-in-council, Alex Alozie, speaking at his Ibadan ‘palace’, said that: “We had informed the whole world in the past of a high court judgment over the Igbo leadership tussle in Ibadan and Oyo State which favoured Dr. Alex Anozie and our association, ACDA, affiliate of Ohaneze worldwide.”

Alozie noted that the cause of the disagreement was his detractors who were misleading the people with their unsavory antics.

He further stated that: “The State High Court in Ibadan had ruled on the 18th of February 2014 which no other court has vacated, that only me, Dr Alex Alozie should be paraded as Eze Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo State.”

“It is quite unfortunate that most people were confused through disgruntled individuals who go about deceiving people and parading themselves against the judgment of the High court in spite of the fact that the judgment of the High Court has neither been vacated, nor have they got any stay of execution against the case.”

He averred that the titles of Eze Ndigbo, Onyendu Ndigbo, Onyeisi Ndigbo or Ochiigbo, all had the same meaning and connotation in Igbo language, hence anyone was free to address him using any of the title.
