Blumhouse has been a name synonymous with horror blockbusters over the years. Halloween, Ma, The First Purge, Unfriended: Dark Web, to name a few. Now, the studio has recruited David Oyelowo in its upcoming high-concept story that features an uncle and a niece trying to solve across time. Interested? Confused? Want to know more? Check out the trailer below:
Oyelowo (Selma) is paired with A Wrinkle in Time star Storm Reid and as we see in the trailer, detective Jack Radcliff (Oyelowo) gets a shocking phone call from his recently-murdered niece Ashley (Reid). Working together across time, they race to solve her murder before it can happen. I have to admit that the time travel physics of the movie is a bit loopy. The film is coming at a time when we’ve seemingly fallen in love with the time travel loop as a plot device. Edge of Tomorrow kicked things off all the way back in 2014 with Tom Cruise’s own personal forever war. Since then, horror and suspense have picked up on the Groundhog’s Day wave. Happy Death Day was Blumhouse’s first foray at the looping horror film and Netflix took its own whack at it with Natasha Lyonne’s Russian Doll.
Don’t Let Go looks like a great addition for anyone who likes diagramming timelines as much as they do jump scares. Reid, who is currently on HBO’s visceral teen sex and drug show Euphoria, is finally getting recognised for her talent and working together with Oyelowo looks really interesting already. August 30 can’t come soon enough.
When Bernard Dayo isn’t writing about pop culture, he’s watching horror movies, anime and trying to pretend his addiction to Netflix isn’t a serious condition.
