This week was a rollercoaster of buzzy stories, from politics to pop culture and while we routinely reported each of these stories from our YNaija desk, here’s a roundup of everything that went down in the past six days and are still trending today:
Aircraft seat saga with Tonye Cole, Wole Soyinka and a ”muscled, tattooed,” young man
One of the buzziest stories this week was billionaire politician narrating what he saw on an aircraft recently – a young man with muscles and tattooes ”disrespected” Wole Soyinka by asking back his allotted window seat, which the Noble laureate unknowingly sat on. It generated a massive and feverish conversation online about the entitlement of older, elderly Nigerians and their dismissiveness of young people.
I went on the online to book window seat. I reach inside plane and I see Wole Soyinka in the seat that I had booked since and paid money. I tell him I want to seat in MY own seat and y’all telling me I’m rude and mannerless for demanding that Wole Soyinka stand up from MY seat?

Any diligent reader of Wole Soyinka will know that he would have insisted on his seat as a young man.
Yes, our culture demands respect for elders. But undue entitlement by senior citizens, especially when the premise is wrong, should always be resisted. That’s why we are here.

And the memes…
bearded tattooed guy: Excuse me sir, you’re in my seat
Every other person : Don’t you know Wole Soyinka?

Busola Dakolo reveals how Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA raped her on Y!TV interview
This was the story of the week, turning social media into a raging, whirring vortex of opinions. Celebrity photographer Busola Dakolo gave a heartbreaking revelation of being raped twice by pastor Fatoyinbo, who already has a litany of rape allegations.
She put her image, marriage, husband’s career and family on the line to speak out about an issue that’s eating her up and probably messing up her marriage and you have the effontory to defend the rapist? Have you lost your humanity? ?? #COZA

This whole #COZA #BusolaDakolo saga is one of the reasons why victims of abuse never speak up. To think some people can talk down a woman who summoned the courage to speak up says alot about the kind of society we leave in. Shame!!

Burna Boy’s mum’s acceptance speech at the 2019 BET Awards
The 2019 BET Awards, which took place at the Microsoft Theater in California, saw Afro-fusion artiste Burna Boy winning Best International Act, joining other artistes like Wizkid, Davido, and 2Face who have previously clinched the awards. Twitter is still buzzing from the acceptance speech rendered by Burna Boy’s mum, or Mama Burna, which was an opportunity to remind African Americans that they are Africans first. Well, good luck with that.
We love our International family ❤️Congrats @burnaboy! #BETAwards pic.twitter.com/LMlnMfDZCO

Super Eagles beat Guinea 1-0 in #AFCON2019, qualify for round of 16
Following Super Eagles getting knocked out from the ongoing Women’s World Cup in France, the Super Eagles emerged as the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. The Eagles beat the Syli Nationale of Guinea by a lone goal to zoom into the round of 16 with a game to spare. Kenneth Omeruo got the only goal for Nigeria as he nodded in a cross from Moses Simon in the 73rd minute. The Eagles’ victory also got a congratulatory tweet from Atiku Abubakar.
Congratulations @NGSuperEagles. I am excited on our qualification for the round of 16 even with a game in hand. Slow, but steady, the Super Eagles are making progress. #TotalAFOCN2019

New Senate President Ahmed Lawan says his monthly salary is N745,000, ridiculous right?
Buhari’s second tenure has newly-elected politicians seemingly running with excited steam. Case in point Lagos governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose regime markedly kicked off with LASTMA imposing new rules and penalty for those who flout traffic laws. Accordingly, the new Senate President Ahmed Lawan, perhaps in a bid to show transparency and lead by example, recently revealed during a Senators’ Forum on Tuesday that he takes home N745,000 monthly. Uhm, what about the allowances? Prof Itse Sagay had something to say. See next story.
Senators’ monthly pay is N15m, Sagay replies Lawan
The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), asked Senate President Ahmed Lawan to stop misleading Nigerians, adding that senators earn N15m monthly and not N750,000 as claimed by the Senate President. Lawan had said on Tuesday that there was no such thing as ‘jumbo pay’, adding that he earns N750,000 as salary. LOL.
Ibikunle Amosun hands over 1000 AK 47 rifles to the police
Former governor of Ondo Ibikunle Amosun handed over 1000 AK 47 rifles and bullets to the police, just before the 2019 general elections. According to him, it was for the ”protection of the state” but thought this unnecessary hoarding of firearms was ridiculous.
If Amosun truly had 1,000 AK-47s stockpiled, then the Nigerian security apparatus has failed beyond belief. 1,000 AK-47s is enough to arm 2 medium sized battalions or 1 average sized brigade.@MBuhari you need to an audit of how this happened under your watch.

Reading Amosun stockpiled 1000 AK47 and 1m rounds. Insane! Impunity should have no place in National Security. If those fell into the wrong hands..
