Thisday Report: Gov Peter Obi confirms Achebe’s death

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has confirmed the passing away of one of the nation’s foremost literary icons, Professor Chinua Achebe.

According to reports, Achebe, 82, died Thursday night in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, United States from an undisclosed ailment.

A source close to the family said the professor had been ill for a while and was hospitalised in an undisclosed hospital in Boston.

Until his death, the renowned author of Things Fall Apart was the David and Marianna Fisher University Professor and Professor of Africana Studies at Brown.

  2. Befitting burial service is required of not only Anambra state but also nigeria. He gave nigeria a meaningful name academically while alive. I hereby sound this warning to president Goodluck to take a very good care of Achebe’s burial and memorise him by federalizing his monument. Tnx.
