Ex-staff of CBN challenge their termination in court
Some former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) staff have taken to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) to challenge the apex bank for terminating their jobs in 2024.
According to the multiple lawsuits filed by the ex-staff members, the CBN allegedly violated several Labour laws, constitutional provisions, and internal policies.
The 33 plaintiffs, led by Stephen Gana, all claimed that their termination process was unconstitutional, illegal, and arbitrary.
Abuja School bombing rocks Nigeria, leaves two dead
Two people have been pronounced dead as a bomb explosion took place at an Islamiyya school located at Kuchibiyu community in the Bwari Area Council on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Two others have been found injured from the impact of the bomb explosion and immediately taken to a hospital while police officers investigate the bomb explosion and its culprit.
The FCT Command stated the incident, saying that three men from Katsina had visited the owner of the Islamic school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and brought the explosive device with them into the school.
NCDC reveals there has been a surge in LASSA fever cases across Nigeria
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced that there have been multiple reported cases of LASSA fever in Nigeria.
The agency mentioned that states like Edo, Bauchi, and Ondo have the highest records of LASSA fever cases. Therefore, Nigerians are warned to exercise precautionary measures to avoid contracting the disease.
The NCDC’s Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, stated that constant hand-washing with soap and water, storing food items in rodent-free containers and environments, and proper waste disposal to deter rodents could help avoid the disease.
EFCC fires 27 officers over fraud allegations
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sacked 27 staff members for committing fraudulent crimes that have brought shame to the agency.
The 27 staff members had allegedly been involved in fraudulent activities and other misconduct that negated the EFCC’s dignity and motto.
Though the identities of the 27 ex-staff were not released to the public, the EFCC chairman claimed that he was committed to ridding the country and most of all, the anti-graft agency of corruption and any misconduct.
Peter Obi alleges threat to his person over comments made against APC
A 2023 Presidential candidate and politician, Peter Obi has alleged that his life is being threatened by unknown forces who are against his vocal takes on criticising the APC political party.
Peter Obi, the figurehead of the Labour Party (LP), has called out for intervention and assistance as the lives of him and his family are being threatened for criticising Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that he had begun receiving various death threats since the day he shared his New Year message which had been against Tinubu’s administration and how it was being run.
