Tragic: Man accidentally shoots 7-year-old son dead in gun store parking lot

In a very tragic incident, a father shot and killed his young son while shopping at a gun store in Pennsylvania, according to police reports.

The seven-year-old boy, was shot dead by his father on Saturday, in the parking lot of a gun shop in western Pennsylvania, in an apparent accident, state police told news reporters.

The boy had been buckling his seat belt in his father’s truck when the handgun, fired as Loughrey got into the front seat, police said.

Loughrey tried to sell the 9mm pistol at Twig’s Reloading Den in East Lackawannock Township, about 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, police said. When the sale didn’t go through, Loughrey brought the gun back to the truck, where it accidentally fired.

Craig Allen Loughrey was shot in the chest by a gun from his father, Joseph V. Loughrey, 44, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police said.

The child died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred at 10:50 am. His father was questioned by investigators, but police said the evidence pointed to an accident. The two came from nearby Fredonia, Pennsylvania, police said.
