Tragic news: 2 ‘okada’ men killed while trying to escape armed robbery attack

Two commercial motorcyclists have lost their lives in an accident around Edo while trying to escape armed robbers.

The duo were said to have collided with each other while trying to flee from the robbers in opposite directions.

The incident was said to have occurred along the Igarra- Ibillo – Akure road, at border between Ondo and Edo.

Attempt to escape from a robbery scene resulted in the death of two commercial motorcyclists, while the two passengers with them were seriously injured as a result of a head on collision.

Reports had it that the incident happened between Ogugu and Aiyegunle communities along the stretch of the road as the robbers were reported to be operating within the area.

One of the dead cyclists identified as Ojo Aiyele, was said to be from Ugboshi-ele community, and the other whose identity was yet to be known was said to be from Ekpesa community.

They reportedly collided while trying to flee in opposite direction near the scene of the robbery and died instantly, while the two injured victims were reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital by members of joint police and military patrol team that have responded promptly to distress calls by eye witnesses.

A witness who pleaded anonymity commended the security agents for their prompt intervention, adding that the robbers ran into the bush on sighting the Army and the police patrol vehicle.

As at press time, the Police Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command, Moses Eguavoen (DSP) could not be reached, but a senior police officer at the command who confirmed the incident said they were yet to be briefed.
