Tragedy struck on the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway on Friday when a multiple accident left six people dead and 21 others critically injured.
The accident occurred around Osunpori Village, near Wasinmi in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. Reports of the accident were confirmed to journalists by the Unit Commander in charge of the Itori section of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Fatai Bakare.
Mr. Bakare said that the fatal accident, involving three vehicles, occurred at about 11:45pm. Bakare said that an IVECO truck with registration number Lagos GGE 200 XC, a Mazda pick-up van (XA 626 AAW) and a Nissan pick-up van marked Lagos XZ 19 EKY were involved in the accident.
He futher disclosed that 27 persons, comprising 20 males and seven females were involved in the crash.
“One of the drivers lost control of his vehicle and he rammed into the other and there was a serious situation afterwards.
“Those who died so far include two males and four females, while 21 others, made up of 18 men and three women sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the FRSC commander as saying on the crash.
The deceased remain unidentified as at press time and the corpses have subsequently been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital in Ifo, near Abeokuta.
Indeed the accidect was a very fatal one. My brother was a victim but thank God he is not dead but critically injured. He nd other lucky victims that were favoured by FATE reported that they were comin from work(construction) in a pickup van that consist of tens of workers including a concrete mixing manchine nd other tools. The last of five trucks that were overspeeding ran into the pickup van which was supposed to be highway but parked beside in order to avoid the trucks but was unfortunately crushsed.. yes they were rescued by some islamic clerics(alfas) that was passing by nd were taken to the ifo general hospital. 6 were dead then buh when we got to the hospital yesterday anoda female was dead….I hope all injured victims survives and I wish them quick recovery
