‘We will deal with oil pipeline vandals’ – Buhari

by Emeka Nwankwo

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President has vowed to deal decisively with oil pipeline vandalism, oil theft and insecurity arising in the Niger Delta

The statement noted that the President made these known during an interactive session he had with members of the Nigerian Community in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The president, while noting that the Nigerian military has dealt tremendous blow to Boko Haram in the northeast, stated that the oil thieves and vandals will soon be brought to their knees.

“The oil thieves and abductors are a less problematic target. We will re-organise and deal with them,” Buhari said at the interactive session.

President Buhari further stated that the war against Boko Haram will be won only if stakeholders work together to stop the scourge.

He went further to state that the registration of all mobile phone users will help security agencies to pre-empt terrorist attacks and that all telecommunication companies in Nigeria must obey the guidelines of the NCC.

He also made reassurances that the war against corruption by his administration will be pursued vigorously so as to expose those who have abused public funds and bring them to book.

President Buhari was quoted saying: “in the face of our new economic reality of dwindling oil prices, there are a number if things we can really do without in order to preserve our economy. We must develop capacity to feed ourselves and we should be spending our resources on real development projects, not luxuries.”
