Two Lives Lost As Machete-Wielding Men Attack Filmhouse Cinema In Lekki
In the early hours of Saturday, tragedy struck Filmhouse cinema in Lekki as two machete-wielding men swung and stabbed two, killing one, with one of the attackers also losing his life. According to eyewitnesses, and victims at the scene, the cinema-goers had been held hostage for over an hour, with many choosing to hide out in the bathroom for fear of being harmed by the attackers.
According to a content creator who had been at the crime scene, one of the attackers claimed the victim who died had been his target. Although details on the attack are still unfolding, and it is unclear the motives behind the attack, filmhouse has expressed sadness over the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Sultex, Goddessa Evicted From Big Brother Naija
Big Brother Naija Season 11 is now down to 17 housemates as Goddessa and Sultex were evicted from the house during the live eviction show on Sunday. Nominations had taken place earlier in the week shortly after Chimsom Chuka was crowned head of house (HoH) for week five and secured immunity from this week’s eviction. Big Brother tasked the contestants with nominating contestants they would like to save from possible eviction, and after pulling the lowest votes of the nominated housemates, Sultex and Goddessa were evicted from the Big Brother Naija House.
Since premiering in July, the show started with 24 housemates, and with 6 being evicted and one voluntary exit, there are now 17 housemates competing for the record-breaking grand prize of N160 million, the largest payout in the reality show’s history since its debut in 2006.
Olivia Rodrigo Raises $10 Million For Nonprofit Organizations With Women-Only Concert
American Popstar Olivia Rodrigo has raised $10 million to be shared with 10 nonprofit partners during her Daisy Chain concert weekend. The sold-out concert which was stacked with Popstar performers was a huge success and succeeded in uniting music fans while supporting important causes.
The day before the festival, Rodrigo talked about its philanthropic aims, and announced that she would be donating $10 million to be given directly to 10 nonprofit partners that were introduced and in attendance at a press conference hosted for girls and women. The nonprofits chosen also participated in the festival.

Ex Big Brother Naija housemate Bella has sued her ex boyfriend, Sheggz who was a Big Brother Naija contestant for domestic abuse, and a breach of promise of marriage. The ex-couple who had been together for 5 years after coupling up in the Big Brother house, have been in a public dispute on social media over allegations of unpaid loans, domestic abuse and leaked messages.
While neither of them have taken to social media to address the controversy and leaked chats, Nigerian blogs have posted pictures and leaked messages supporting the claims made by Bella in her lawsuit. Prior to her suit on domestic violence, Sheggz had previously sent out a cease and desist letter to former Big Brother Naija contestant and winner of season 7, Phyna after she publicly called him out and defended Bella against him.
Spiderman Breaks Record, Surpasses Titanic And Avatar in box office records
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has continued its record breaking streak at the box office, one month after its release. Over the weekend, it first took over the Titanic’s spot at the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, and has now placed third after surpassing James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” at $2.33 billion.
For the fifth weekend in a row, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ topped the North American box office. It grossed USD 22.2 million in U.S. and Canadian theatres, according to studio estimates Sunday, bringing its worldwide total to USD 2.33 billion and making it the third highest-grossing film of all time. The film’s latest earnings recorded a drop of just 44% from week 4.
