Asake targets 2027 Grammys with ‘M$NEY,’ Wizkid, and DJ Snake collaborations

Nigerian singer Asake has submitted four entries for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, including his album ‘M$NEY’ and collaborations with Wizkid and French DJ Snake. His label, Giran Republik, announced the submissions on Thursday, October 8.
‘M$NEY’ is in contention for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album, while ‘Jogodo’ with Wizkid is in contention for Best African Music Performance. ‘Gratitude’ has three submissions, while ‘Worship’ with DJ Snake is considered for Best Dance Pop Recording.
Grammy nominations will be announced on November 16, ahead of the February 7, 2027 ceremony in Los Angeles. Asake has received two previous nominations.

Veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has revealed that his wife, Sadiat, whom he married in 1989, knew about his relationships with female colleagues but remained cordial with them despite the affairs.
In a snippet from an interview on African A List, Quadri said some actresses would approach his wife to gossip about his relationships, but she refused to quarrel with them.
The actor added that his wife sometimes welcomed and cared for the actresses when they stayed at their home after late-night film productions, despite knowing about their involvement with him.

Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar reportedly died aged 75 after a suspected cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Indian media reports said his son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed his death.
Patekar was reportedly found unconscious at home and rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for about 45 minutes. He was later cremated with full state honours near Pune, Maharashtra.
The actor enjoyed a career spanning nearly five decades, starring in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Ab Tak Chhappan, and Welcome. Tributes have poured in from political leaders, colleagues, and fans celebrating his contribution to Indian cinema.
J.P. Morgan plans to open merchant bank in Nigeria before 2027

J.P. Morgan is planning to establish a merchant bank in Nigeria, with operations expected to begin before the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Dapo Olagunji, the bank’s West Africa managing director, announced this at a financial dialogue in Singapore on October 8.
The Nigeria-Asia Financial Connectivity Dialogue was organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), J.P. Morgan, Nigerian Exchange Group and FMDQ Group to strengthen financial ties and attract investment.
The move follows J.P. Morgan’s decision to include Nigeria in its emerging markets government bond index, assigning the country a 7.4% weighting in September, nearly 11 years after its removal in 2015.
‘Crazy Rich Asians’ returns as HBO orders eight-episode sequel series

HBO is expanding the world of Crazy Rich Asians with a sequel series based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novels. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with an eight-episode season planned.
Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young, alongside Ronny Chieng as Eddie. Michelle Yeoh will also return as Eleanor Sung-Young in a recurring role. The return of other original cast members remains unconfirmed.
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Director Jon M. Chu, producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, and author Kevin Kwan will also serve as executive producers on the series.
