Why we’ve not yet arrested Tompolo – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has stated that it is yet to receive a bench warrant for the arrest of former Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.

Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, issued a bench warrant on January 14, for the arrest of Tompolo but as at Monday, January 25, the police says it is yet to get the arrest order from the court’s bailiff.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole revealed to Punch Newspapers that “we have not received the court order on Tompolo till now and that is why we have not effected his arrest.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had charged Tompolo and a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi, alongside eight others on 30 counts of alleged N34bn fraud.

Owing to Tompolo’s failure to show up at court during arraignment, the presiding judge was compelled to ordered the arrest of the ex-militant leader.

He ordered that Tompolo must be produced in court on February 8, 2016 by all means possible.
