Terri Roberts was hospitalized for a sudden bacterial infection. Toxic-shock syndrome caused her to fall into a month-long coma that doctors didn’t think she would ever come out of. But just 4 hours before her family was scheduled to take Roberts, 56, off life support, she woke up (via Yahoo).

“She just magically woke up,” said her son, Ryan. Roberts had to undergo a quadruple amputation only days after waking up, but she’s in “surprisingly good spirits.”

Roberts is determined to walk and drive again, and her family has set up a Go Fund Me page to cover medical expenses and the necessary prosthetics. They’ve already surpassed their goal of $25,000.

Roberts’s family sees her as an inspiration. It seems Roberts wasn’t ready to quit yet, as she was raising three of her grandchildren full-time. Roberts’s daughter, Andrea, was murdered several years ago, and she quit her job to take care of the kids. Although it’s a long road to recovery, Roberts’s family is confident in her recovery.  “I gave up on my mom, and she didn’t give up on herself,” said Ryan.
