DNA test proves Yakubu Gowon fathered love child, Musa Gowon

Former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, on Wednesday, admitted that he fathered a love-child with the late public relations expert, Princess Edith Ike Okongwu.

Gowon, in a statement, said based on the result of a ‘conclusive’ paternity test, 48-year-old Musa Gowon was discovered to be his biological son.

Musa returned to Nigeria towards the end of 2015 after spending almost 23 years in a United States prison.

After being tried on the charge of importing heroin into the United States, he was sentenced to 27 years in prison and was only released in November 2015, on compassionate ground and good behaviour.

While in US custody, Musa Gowon lost his mother in 2003.

The senior Gowon, in his statement, asked for privacy for the family and also said the rehabilitation of Musa is of great importance.

“Following years of doubts and speculation, a DNA test was recently conducted to ascertain the paternity of Musa Gowon, who recently returned to the country.”

“The results of the tests were conclusive, and they confirm his paternity. We, the family, are working to assist in his rehabilitation following a very difficult period in his life.”

“As we look forward to the future with faith in God, we request that our privacy be respected.”
