Saraki, Dogara will be allowed to defend themselves before being punished – APC

The All Progressives Congress says that it will follow due process while it takes disciplinary action against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and other party members, who defied its directive on the election of the National Assembly leadership.

The APC had conducted mock elections last weekend, in which Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila emerged as its consensus candidates for the Senate Presidency and House Speakership respectively.

Consequently, the party had instructed its lawmakers not to contest against Lawan and Gbajabiamila, but Saraki and Dogara went against this directive and eventually won the positions.

As a result of their flouting of the party’s directive, sanctions will be taken against the duo.

On Thursday, June 11, after an emergency National Working Committee meeting of the APC in Abuja, party spokesman, Lai Mohammed, insisted that the party had not changed its stance on sanctioning the lawmakers.

When asked if the party would proceed with plans to punish Saraki,Dogara and others, he replied saying that the: “sanctions would follow due process.”

Speaking further, Mohammed said that the guilty lawmakers would be notified of their offences and given a chance to respond and defend themselves.
