The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, has been suspended by the Federal Government.

Sheni was suspended due to the unauthorized recall of the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa.

Apparently, Sheni did not get clearance from the president before inviting the country’s charge d’Affairs in South Africa for consultation.

President Jonathan reportedly ordered the suspension of the Permanent Secretary on Monday, while he was also instructed to clarify why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for embarrassing the Nigerian government, yet again.

This is the second time Ambassador Sheni will be causing ambarrassment to the Nigerian government in the space of a few months.

In March, the Ministry had claimed that President Goodluck Jonathan had a telephone conversation with the King of Morocco.

The claim was immediately denied by the Moroccoan government and the President subsequently ordered a full investigation into the matter.

A new permanent secretary has been redeployed to replace Sheni at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
