OBJ the grandfather of corruption; Jimoh the pig; Jegede the comeback kid… | Here are last week’s winners and losers

Last week did not go by without its own share of many losers and few winners. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was shining bright calling out President Muhammadu Buhari and charging him to end the blame game and get to work, until the entire House of Reps shut him up and bestowed on him the title – most corrupt person ever. Deserving or not?

Let’s see where he stands on our list of winners and losers:

WINNERS

Eyitayo Jegede: The tale of factions and divisions came to a climax when two days before the Ondo state governorship election, the Supreme Court affirmed the Makarfi-led PDP candidate as the one who will run for the party in the election on Saturday.

Jegede won the party primaries in August but the opposing faction in the party led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff usurped that win by presenting Jimoh Ibrahim to INEC as the party’s candidate in the election.

After a number of court rulings and appeals, Eyitayo Jegede emerged winner leaving Jimoh Ibrahim with nothing but bravado.

Senator Dino Melaye: At the National Assembly Press Corps award in Abuja, Senator Dino Melaye was awarded “Best Senator of the Year 2016”.

This is a good win considering how hard he’s worked in the upper chamber threatening to beat a female senator to a pulp, the luxury cars he’s purchased this year and everything else that has built Dino’s disagreeable status up to this point.

We join the Senator in giving “glory to God” for this very well-deserved win. Or what else can we say?

LOSERS

Ondo APC and PDP: Though official results are yet to be announced, the Ondo governorship election held yesterday was characterized by misconduct in many parts and it was largely influenced by these opposing parties.

Voters were manipulated and reportedly offered cash in some units, ballot boxes were snatched and youths were paid to disrupt the voting process. PDP candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu’s campaign DG was allegedly caught with already thumb-printed ballot papers.

An APC chieftain was also reprimanded by residents who caught him trying to buy votes. Both parties have now become accustomed to shameful acts such as these.

The grandfather of corruption: Since he has been accused of introducing corruption to the National Assembly and being the greatest corrupt person ever to hold office in Nigeria, it is only right that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is handed the top spot on our list of losers.

Hail the founding father and grand patron of all things corruption in Nigeria! The House of Reps said so, not us.

Femi Fani-Kayode and Jimoh Ibrahim: The duo engaged in the most demeaning Twitter fight in the history of Nigerian politics.

The latter’s grievance is understandable, he lost out in the pre-election battle and everything he put into the governorship campaign had gone to waste. He has till 2020 to try again and it hurts.

For FFK, he was in full troll mode and set out to drag what was left of Ibrahim’s ego and pride in mud. See as they slug it out here.

As amusing as the drama was, it just drives home the point that most Nigerian politicians are a bunch of lousy, immoral and detestable old men – and women.

Seun Egbegbe: Hats off for making news headlines every day of last week starting Tuesday. The Nollywood movie producer was on every blog and must have been the most talked-about Nigerian all through last week. Now why?

He was accused of stealing 9 iPhones from a store at Computer Village, Ikeja. He released a statement refuting the rumor but was later seen in a police cell. On Thursday, he was arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrate Court for theft and was later granted bail.

Yesterday, he shared photos of himself having a drink at home with friends claiming to know nothing of the entire drama and leaving us all the more confused. Still a loser, though!

Comment:obasanjo will continue to be very relevant in nigeria inspite of his faults u should realise that we don’t have a gud opposition in pdp and the curent leaders need someone to let them know they ar lacking behind. My candid advise is nig. Can no longer manage 2 chambers in the natioinal assemble we just have to scrap the senate
