The National Broadcasting Commission claims to have successfully blocked the illegal Radio Biafra from operating, by jamming its signals.
Last week, the Director General of NBC, Emeka Mba had said in Abuja: “We are working with security operatives, the Commission has also tracked down, neutralized and confiscated transmitter equipment from several locations in the region.”
The commission claimed to have arrested some of the radio station’s operators and also seized its transmission equipment in some parts of South-East zone.
However, Vanguard reports that some of the ardent listeners of the station in Enugu insist that the station was still operating in skeletal form.
The report states further that police authorities in Enugu claimed ignorance of any arrest as the State police command’s spokesman Ebere Amaraizu was quoted to have said: “I am not aware of the arrest and parading of the Radio Biafra suspects. Not to my knowledge.”
Meanwhile, an engineer working for the station is said to have been arrested by men of the Department of State Security DSS and taken to Abuja.
