After widespread consultation and speculation, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has finally left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku made the official announcement today and highlighted his disappointment in the PDP and the path the party and its leadership had chosen.

These are 10 things that can be deduced from the former VP’s move to the APC:

1, The former Vice President moved to the APC because the PDP failed to deliver on promises made

The new leadership of the party and the country promised a new direction, a direction of inclusiveness, of internal democracy, of an end to impunity, adherence to the rule of law and respect for the dignity of members and Nigerians.

2, The endless crises in the PDP was also a factor

The PDP continues to be beset with many crises, mostly leadership-induced crises.

3, The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), according to the fomer Vice Presidnt, is no longer on the same page with Nigerians

…It has since lost touch with Nigerians…

4, The PDP of today is far from what its founders envisaged

…Efforts made by many well-meaning members and stakeholders to bring it back to the vision of the founders have been rebuffed

5, The walkout staged during the PDP convention in August 2013 did not have its desired effect

…As I speak, most of the issues that led to that walk-out are yet to be addressed…

6, The former VP, like a number of other founders, feels left out by the party

Many founding members of the PDP, I included, continue to be marginalized and excluded from the affairs of the party

7, Atiku has given up on the PDP

We have, therefore, concluded that that party cannot be redeemed

8, The PDP has lost its purpose

In short the PDP has abandoned Nigerians, the very people who gave it life and many electoral victories.

9, The PDP has developed a habit of impunity

More worrisome though is the danger posed to the continued existence of this country by this culture of impunity and arbitrariness.

10, The people of Nigeria deserve better

We can and we must do better. Our people deserve better.

  1. 10 sweet lies of A-thief-ku. Have u forgotten how this same party gave u power, which you ruled with. When OBJ was busy messing up,did u cry out No! You left PDP in search of power again and nigerians said no to you. You rushed back to that same party that you so claim to born with impunity. Why re u deceiving urself my brother. Have u forgotten that u didn't show the reason why u should be made leader or BOT member. You can't stand any political weather,so u don't deserve to be called a party man. Instead I call you a traveler of political partys and a fake lone ranger of failure.
