Nineteen shop owners were convicted on Saturday by the Sanitation Court for flouting the law on monthly clean up in Sokoto, Sokoto State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convicts were each sentenced by Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmed to one month in prison or to pay N5,000 fine.
The convicted shop owners were arrested at Emir Yahaya, Sultan Atiku, Bungudu, Katsina roads and Sahara area, among others.
The Chairman, Task Force on Sanitation and Removal of Illegal Structures in Sokoto city, retired Sqn. Ldr. Aminu Bala, told reporters that 30 motorists and 56 motorcyclists were also apprehended.
“They flouted the restriction of movement order. But they were warned and released after the expiration of the restriction order by 10 a.m.”
