#2013Oscars: 7 Reasons to watch this year’s telecast

by Wilfred Okicheoscar

1) It’s the Oscars

You know, that tiny event known as the Oscars that may well be the most important night of the year. Yes that one. Need we say more?

‘2) Family guy’s’ Seth MacFarlane is hosting

The Oscars have had a 2 year stretch of questionable hosting talent beginning with the Anne Hathaway-James Franco fiasco of 2011 and continuing with Billy Crystal’s capable but boring attempt last year. In a bid to rejig the telecast, funnyman and creator of the Family Guy series, Seth MacFarlane has been drafted in and anticipation is high. Will he sink or swim?

3) Adele is performing/winning

Of course we all know Adele will claim the trophy for Best Original Song but there will be a double dose of her as she gets to serenade us with ‘Skyfall’ as part of the ‘50 years of James Bond’ tribute. Speaking of,  Dame Shirley Bassey, singer of original Bond anthems like ‘Diamonds are forever’ and ‘Moonraker’ has also been confirmed to be .

4) Argo vs Lincoln vs Silver Linings Playbook for Best Picture

Because it may come down to these three films after all. After sweeping the pre-cursor award shows, Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ looks set to go all the way. That Director snub sticks out like a craw though and that is where Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ looks likely to step in. While both heavyweights are slugging it out, ‘Silver Linings’ may step in for the outside chance.

5) Red carpet fabulosity

The gowns, the cuts, the hair, the tuxes, the perfect bodies. An overdose of Hollywood’s hottest striking poses in the finest of couture. Lets face it, who emerges best dressed is almost as important as who wins Best Actress so we’ll be paying close attention.

6) Anne Hathaway, Daniel Day-Lewis and Jennifer Lawrence? will be announced winners

While wins for Hathaway and Day-Lewis are virtual locks, Ms Lawrence is also close to securing her first Best Actress win. Can anyone stop them? We don’t think so but we’ll be watching anyway.

7) The musicals are back

Perhaps buoyed by the recent upsurge of musicals, producers will incorporate an overall celebration of musical numbers into this year’s show that will include a reunion of the ‘Chicago’ cast and will also highlight performances from films like ‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘Les Miserables’. Heavyweights like Bbarbara Streisand and Jennifer Hudson  will be on hand to deliver sparkling renditions of familiar tunes.
