37 people reportedly killed in Kaduna clash between farmers, herdsmen

About 37 people were reportedly killed in a violent clash between farmers and herdsmen in Kajuru local government, Kaduna State, TheCable reports.

According to the report, the conflict began when a suspected herdsman was killed in Banono village on Sunday, allegedly because he had been harassing members of the community.

In reaction, youth from his community attacked five youth from Kadara who they believed were responsible for his murder.

Youth from Kadara allegedly launched a retaliatory attack on Monday, leaving 12 people dead.

Security agents were then dispatched to the affected areas, temporarily restoring peace. But shortly after leaving, Kadara youth attacked neighbouring villagers once again, killing 10.

A witness said that while the bodies were buried in a mass grave, news broke that nine more corpses were discovered in the bush.

Kaduna State police spokesman Yakubu Sabo confirmed the incident but did not confirm the number of casualties.
