5 reasons Seyi Shay needs to ‘shut up’, as advised by Wizkid

On Sunday night, Seyi Shay once again drew the ire of Nigerians after yet another TV blunder.

The Pack N’ Go singer appeared on a television show in Jamaica where she claimed that Wizkid originally owns the One Dance track… not Drake.

Wizkid however, took to Twitter to deny this claim saying the singer lied; he then told her to desist from saying things she’s ignorant of, while advising her to “shut up”.

Like Wizkid, we think ‘shutting up’ should be an option Seyi Shay should seriously consider at this point in time.

The question that lingers on one’s mind is why she would go on a show in faraway Jamaica to say such a controversial statement with utmost certainty and then turnaround to say she was misinformed.

Miss Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua , Miss BBC, Miss Inside Scoop, Miss I don’t know Amber Rose, Miss I don’t talk to Tiwa Savage; here are five reasons we think you need to really “shut up”.

  1. People are starting to believe you’re really a dumb blonde

While we accepted ‘Twooh’ as a human error, ‘Electric Package’ was somewhat inexcusable… and this recent incident is a testament of an emerging ‘stupidity’ – which is defined by the online dictionary as the lack of intelligence, understanding, reason, wit or sense.

If we were to jump into conclusion, one would simply say she’s stupid but in actual fact, it appears she can’t help but react badly when put on the spot.

Therefore we would recommend a break from the press until her team is able to adequately prepare her to handle the spotlight… but wait a minute, was she not managed by Beyonce‘s father at some point in her career?

2. Concentrate on releasing successful music instead of popular gaffes.

Seyi is such a talented artiste whose music should be making a mark, not her TV bloopers.

2015 was a remarkable year for the former Above singer.

Last year, she released her debut album, got an international recording deal with UK’s Island records and an endorsement deal with Pepsi.

She also launched a record label called Stargurl – which is rumoured to be co-owned by Wizkid.

So why all this bad luck or should we say bad judgement in 2016?

Perhaps, she needs to get more studio time and put her energy into what she should be known for; music.

3. She’s starting to irritate people – including her fans.

From a public relations point of view, we momentarily excused the gaffes as cheap publicity – or so she claims – however, it is beginning to irk people.

The showbiz industry is made up of two main divisions – the artistes and the fans.

Seyi Shay is an artiste who is yet to reach the zenith of her career, and she needs to have the backing, support and trust of these two divisions, if she wants to do so.

After going on a foreign television station to reveal a supposedly private information about a fellow artiste, in what light does she think her colleagues, producers, sound engineers, the disc-jockeys and others in the industry, would view her?

A volatile snitch who at the slightest pressure would leak industry secrets?

Seyi Shay doesn’t need such a tag especially not at this delicate moment in her career when she is about to go international.

4. Serious brands may stop taking her seriously

We are very interested on what the brand managers of Etisalat and Pepsi think of their brand ambassador at this moment.

They certainly would have gotten wind of her countless on-air letdowns and may begin to reconsider her status as a positive representative of their brands.

5. Too much controversy has never quite helped anyone

Of course she has maintained that she is deliberately getting into these controversies because ‘Nigerians are gullible’ and she enjoys it but the truth of the matter is that – playtime is over.

Although Miley Cyrus once said, “People like controversy because that’s what sells” and popular Japanese artist, Yoko Ono backed this up with her own quote saying, “Controversy is part of the nature of art and creativity”; but in all these, Seyi Shay needs to know that too much controversy has never helped anyone.

So we advise Seyi Shay to adopt the tight-lip mannerism for a while.

We leave Seyi Shay with this consoling quote from the great Martin Luther King Jr.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

We hope Seyi Shay is able to overcome/soar above this phase of her career unhurt and unscathed.
