Police recently arrested an 86-year-old man for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl on several occasions giving her biscuits to silence her.
The suspect, Sisua Mathe, was arrested in Dimbamiwa Village.
According to the police spokesperson, Inspector Billie Dube: “The accused, Sisua Mathe first met the complainant on her way to school in March and lured her to his homestead using biscuits, where he forced her to his bedroom and raped her.
“The accused continued to rape her several times between March to November,” said Dube.
He reportedly said the man was caught when villagers started talking about the matter.
“The matter came to light after the mother heard rumours from other villagers that her daughter was being sexually abused. She made a report on Monday at Nkayi Police Station leading to the arrest of the man.
“School children must desist from taking things from strangers as they risk being raped and infected with diseases,” said Dube.
Southern Africa has the highest reported cases of rape in the continent.
