US announces mass visa revocation for asylum seekers
The United States government is planning to revoke the business and tourism visas of up to 200,000 foreigners who entered the country on short-term visas before seeking asylum. The move could become the largest mass visa revocation in US history.
According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the action will target B1 and B2 visa holders who entered the US between 2016 and 2026 and then applied for asylum. The State Department is expected to begin the revocations in the coming weeks.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed the plan, saying the number of affected people could change. However, the revocations would not automatically result in deportation, as those with pending asylum applications could remain while their cases are under review.
NFIU reveals crowdfunding network funding Nigerian terrorists
The Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has uncovered a crowdfunding network allegedly being used to raise and channel funds to terrorist groups in Nigeria. The agency said the scheme involved foreign-based facilitators seeking donations online under humanitarian or educational claims.
According to the NFIU, hundreds of people were encouraged to make small donations through PayPal pages or bank accounts. The funds were then allegedly moved through several layers before reaching terrorist operatives.
The agency also warned that terrorist financiers were opening accounts in women’s names and using phone numbers not linked to the actual account holders or beneficiaries. It said the emerging methods were making it harder to detect and trace suspicious transactions.
Chidimma Adetshina allegedly attacked by protesters outside South African court
Beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina was allegedly attacked by protesters after leaving the Cape Town Regional Court, where she appeared over her ongoing immigration case. Videos shared online appeared to show a confrontation between Adetshina and protesters outside the court.
Protesters had earlier gathered at the court, chanting “Chidimma, go home” and accusing her of being an illegal immigrant. The demonstration comes amid continued controversy over her immigration status and her decision to represent Nigeria after withdrawing from the 2024 Miss South Africa pageant.
Adetshina, born in South Africa to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, is challenging the government’s attempt to detain her pending possible deportation. The authenticity and full circumstances of the alleged attack videos have not been independently verified.
“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” sequel in the works after two decades
More than 20 years after “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a sequel to the beloved romantic comedy is reportedly in development at Paramount, with Kate Hudson attached as a producer.
Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are expected to return as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry, although their involvement will depend on the story and the writer eventually hired for the project. The original 2003 film earned more than $175 million worldwide.
Directed by Donald Petrie, the film followed Andie and Benjamin as they entered a relationship while secretly pursuing very different goals. McConaughey has previously called it his favourite rom-com and said it continues to earn him significant residual income more than two decades after its release.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” set to overtake “Avengers: Endgame” at US box office
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on course to become Marvel’s biggest film at the US box office, with $855 million in domestic earnings. The film is expected to overtake Avengers: Endgame, which has earned $858 million domestically, by midweek.
Endgame remains Marvel’s highest-grossing film worldwide, with $2.8 billion. Brand New Day has so far made $2.2 billion globally and earned strong reviews, with a 90 per cent critics’ score and 98 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Set four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film follows Peter Parker as he faces a powerful new threat in New York. The character could next appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, where the famous black Spider-Man suit may return.
