Former Vice President Alex Ekwueme has been blown abroad for medical treatment, Punch reports.

What happened:

• Ekwueme has been suffering from a chest disease and was admitted at Memphys Hospital of Neurosurgery, Enugu.
• President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered that Ekwueme be flown abroad for treatment.

What is happening:

It was learnt that a white air ambulance, with registration number N605 AJ flew the elder statesman out of the country.

The ambulance departed the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, around 8:30 am on Sunday.

Some family members reportedly accompanied the former Vice-President on the medical trip.
