President Goodluck Jonathan has publicly declared his interest in contesting in the 2015 presidential election.
Jonathan made the declaration amidst tight security and a surging crowd at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
Jonathan arrived the venue at about 11:40am alongside the First Lady, Patience Jonathan, the President of the Senate, David Mark and some Peoples Democratic Party governors.
While making his declaration speech, Jonathan listed several of his accomplishments, which he says, makes him deserving of a second term in office.
He said in part, “Just as we stopped Ebola, we are on our way to eradicating Polio in Nigeria” ” I promise that I will not handover Polio to anyone”.
“After seeking the face of God and quite reflection with my Family…, I Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, has accepted to present myself” to contest for the presidency in the 2015 general elections.”
Several musicians performed at the well attended event, some of which included veterans, Sani Danja, Bongo Sikwe, and Onyeka Onwenu, while Hip Hop star Naeto C also got to perform his ‘Ten Over Ten’ hit single.
While delivering his address to the crowd, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State asked Jonathan not to be intimidated ahead of the 2015 elections as all the PDP state governors are behind him.
