The convoy of Benue State governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam and his deputy, Chief Steven Lawani was on Friday involved in an auto crash on Makurdi-Gboko Road.

The governor’s vehicle and that of his security aides were badly damaged, but the he came out unhurt.

The accident occurred while a driver of a station wagon car, conveying passengers to Makurdi on top speed wanted to overtake other vehicles ahead of him, but realising that it was too late to apply his brakes rammed into the governor’s convoy in the opposite direction.

The crash left the governor’s SUV badly damaged, while its back-up skidded off the road into the bush, but the occupants escaped unhurt.

Governor Suswam’s 50th birthday will be celebrated in grand style on Saturday, 15 November, with the President, Goodluck Jonathan is expected in the state to grace the occasion as well as commission some projects.
