All you should know about the APC National Secretariat trend

Embers of a political crisis keep bellowing in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the latest development in the series of political drama that has befallen the party, is news of the Police barricading its National Secretariat in Abuja.

Acting on the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Police is alleged to have restricted members of the National Working Committee (NWC) from entering into the premises, while the reason for the orders is said to have stemmed from the leadership tussle in the APC in the last few days, which assumed a different dimension last week after the Appeal Court upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the ruling party and a High Court ruled that its Deputy National Secretary, Victor Giadom act as Acting National Chairman.

This is coming on the heels of a street protest in Abuja on Monday, with the protesters demanding the dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee(NWC). Nigerians had a lot to say about this development, with some declaring that the problems of the APC appear to be an unending movie series.

The news was also a source of laughter to many, as they stated that ‘Karma’ had come for the party and went further to state that the APC should have been tending to its internal affairs instead of bothering itself with the defection of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from the party.

Some opined that it was a source of mockery for the ruling party to be treated as such, especially in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Others saw it as a larger indication of a loss of confidence in the ability of the APC-led Federal Government to perform its all-important constitutional responsibilities.

Reacting to the development, the Police has hinted that the presence of its personnel deployed to the National Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress, located at Blantyre Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, is simply a proactive move by the Force to maintain peace and ensure there is no breakdown of law and order at the Secretariat.

In the wake of court injunctions, the drama around defections as well as suspension of party members, and now, the sealing of its National headquarters, it seems the crisis in the APC may fester for a long time.
