Ambode appoints retired AIG as new LASTMA boss

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has appointed a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Christian Akioja Olakpe, as the new Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The appointment was communicated via a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Habib Aruna, on Monday.

Haruna stated that the new LASTMA boss’ appointment is in response to complaints by the public on the situation of traffic on Lagos roads.

The statement further said that Olakpe’s appointment is meant to restructure the LASTMA for improved performance and better relations with the public and the state.

Olakpe joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1982 and served as Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa and Plateau.

He was also the Deputy Commandant of the Police Academy, Kano and Commissioner of Police of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, Lagos.
