Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed has been confirmed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
New UN Secretary-General António Guterres, made the announcement on Thursday through his spokesman, Mr Stephane Dujarric.
The Minister for Environment was former UN Under-Secretary-General to outgoing UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on the 2030 Agenda for Development.
A tweet by the UK Mission to the United Mission congratulated Mohammed on her appointment.
