A Nigerian woman who had plans to give birth to her baby in the United Kingdom got her plans nipped in the bud after she went into labour aboard a plane.

The unidentified 30-year-old woman gave birth to her child in the business class section of a British Airways plane.

The flight, which left Abuja, Nigeria for London, had to make an emergency landing in Palma de Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands of Spain.

A  British Airways spokesman said:

‘Our cabin crew, who are trained in birthing procedures, assisted with the delivery of a baby on board our flight from Abuja.’The Captain diverted the aircraft to Palma so that mum and baby could be taken to hospital.

‘We are in touch and will continue to provide any support and help we can. ‘We wish the mother and her little one all the very best.’

The woman was only 26 weeks gone and went into labour while the plane was at 36,000 feet. She was taken to the hospital as soon as the plane landed and both she and the baby are said to be in stable condition.
