Sad news for Old Trafford faithfuls, Borrussia Dortmund defender – Mats Hummels – is staying in Germany after revealing he is making a switch to his club’s fiercest rivals – Bayern Munich in the summer.
The German footballer, who is yet to undergo medicals, explained the reason behind the the surprising move in a statement on Dortmund’s website.
“This is a decision that, after eight and a half successful years at Dortmund, I did not take easily,” he said. “I have always been proud, and still am, to wear the Dortmund shirt and to be a part of this extraordinary team.
“Before I return to my home city we have one big goal to achieve: to win the German Cup and to have a big party with the BVB fans. I thank all the people from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful time in black-and-yellow.”
Meanwhile Bayern Munich has also acquired another signing in the form of 18-year-old midfielder Renato Sanches from Benfica.
The Portuguese player was signed for a reported fee of €35,000,000.
