#BBNaija: Will Debie’s music career rise to the top? We investigate | What the future holds for the top five finalists

Debie Rise

by Tolu O.

Yes, we think!

Debie-Rise made it to second place at the third season of what was once the biggest reality show on TV, Nigerian Idol. So, her musical talent is undeniable. Debie-Rise may not exactly be energetic and lively but armed with her guitar, she brought life into the Big Brother house. Thanks to her, Bassey learned to play the guitar, Uriel showed off her singing talent, the housemates bonded via the jam sessions and viewers were richly entertained.

True that Debie-Rise at first seemed like she prepped for failure on the Big Brother show with that absurd entrance she made two weeks into the show but she took time to re-introduce herself to the housemates and viewers as one housemate with great potential. With Debie-Rise, it’s low-key, strategic winning. The visuals to her single “Cunny cunny” was published on YouTube in September 2016, two months later she shows up on Africa’s biggest fame platform and she plays that song to other housemates at least twice a week fully aware that millions are watching across Africa and they will get curious enough to find her on the internet. What better way to sell yourself?!

If it’s a solid record deal Debie-Rise desires, she’s sure to get one. A number of viewers even suspect Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy has eyes on her talent and will poach her once she gets out of the house. We do not know what Don Jazzy’s plans are but we know for sure that if Debie decides to pursue her musical career post-BBN, she will not have a hard time getting to the top.

We say “if” because Debie-Rise has other interests that are not even related to music. She’s a graphic artist, brand designer and web programmer, as she’s told many times. She even said to live show host, Ebuka and BBAmplied winner, Karen Igho that should she win the N25 million cash money, she will invest in her technology business. So yes, Debie-Rise has more than one great option to choose from.

So we imagine that Debie-Rise, in the long run, may not be stuck in our faces but will lurk somewhere in the background making major cash and will occasionally “show face” just as a reminder of her presence. Or she will concentrate on her music squarely and will rise to compete with the likes of female artistes Niniola, Aramide and maybe even Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage. Who knows? I mean, look at her energy in this video:
