We are not even surprised about this one! In what might be a potentially fruitful movie award year, Black Panther has bagged seven nominations at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Released earlier this year, Black Panther marked the first solo outing for T’Challa after his debut in Captain America: Civil War and saw the newly installed Wakanda ruler face a challenge to the throne from the ominously named Killmonger.
Black Panther made several contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the technologically advanced state of Wakanda, Danai Gurira’s fierce warrior Okoye and T’Challa’s tech genius younger sister Shuri, all of which ended up playing key roles in Marvel’s extravagant superhero mash up movie Avengers: Infinity War.
The release of Marvel’s Black Panther was already widely acclaimed prior to its release for bringing a black superhero to the forefront of their own solo movie and upon hitting theatres, became a huge critical and commercial success, even by Marvel’s own standards. The full list of Black Panther‘s nods are: Best Movie, Best Hero (T’Challa), Best Villain (Killmonger), Best Performance In A Movie (Chadwick Boseman), Best On-Screen Team (Black Panther, Okoye, Shuri, Nakia), Scene Stealer (Shuri) and Best Fight (Panther vs M’Baku).
Tiffany Haddish will host the ceremony on June 18, and will once again feature non-gendered categories. For a comprehensive list of the nominations, click here.
