Boko Haram: ISIS name Abu Musab al-Barnawi as group’s new leader

The Islamic State (IS) militant group has announced Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new leader of terrorists group, Boko Haram.

In March last year, the terrorists group which has been responsible for the killings and bombings in North-Eastern Nigeria had pledge allegiance to ISIS.

Abu Musab al-Barnawi, who was previously spokesman group, is featured in the latest issue of an IS magazine.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau was last heard from in an audio message last August, saying he was alive and had not been replaced.

However, the Nigerian Army had said it killed the group’s former leader in a raid.

Shekau took over as the group’s leader after its founder, Muhammad Yusuf, died in police custody in July 2009.

The group recently attacked a UN humanitarian convoy on its way to an IDP camp in Bama, leaving 5 persons wounded.

Its seven-year insurgency has left over 20,000 people dead, mainly in the country’s north-east.
