A taxi driver Rabiu Usman was reportedly arrested for reporting a suspicious passenger to law enforcement.
Reports say the taxi driver was heading to Maiduguri and he picked up this passenger on the way. But on getting to a security checkpoint, he reported his suspicion before the bomber blew himself up.
A resident in the area said, “It is very unfortunate that instead of commending his effort at saving lives he was arrested by the military at Sector six and subsequently moved to Maimalari military cantonment at about 6:00pm on Monday.”
Some residents reportedly feared Usman might be victimised for his effort, a situation which might discourage residents from reporting any suspicious movement around them.
