If you thought racism was confined to the United States of America, this article will prove you wrong. Brazil has long battled racial disparity. Most recently, an incident at a luxury car dealership has left a Brazilian couple outraged by the racism their adopted black son experienced.

As Ronald Munk and Priscilla Celestes looked at vehicles inside the BMW dealership, their seven-year-old black son wandered off. A BMW salesman saw the little boy and immediately suspected he was a poor child coming to the dealership to ask potential customers for money. According to Celeste, the salesman told her son “You can’t stay in here. This isn’t a place for you. You have to leave.” When the couple told him that the boy was their son, his “mouth fell open in embarrassment,” the couple said.

Munk told the press that this incident is the first time his son has ever experienced something like that. The boy asked why he was asked to leave, “when the store has a room with a TV playing cartoons for children,” G1 reported.  Priscilla said that she thinks her son understood why he was kicked out of the dealership. Since the incident, the couple has received letters of apology from the BMW Group in Brazil, as well as the BMW dealership where the incident occurred. The dealership said the incident was a misunderstanding. Celeste created an account on Facebook called “Prejudice is Not a Misunderstanding! It’s a Crime!” in response to the discrimination her son faced.

Do you believe the couple should sue the dealership?
