#Budget PaddingTracker: EFCC begins probe against Speaker Dogara

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun investigations into allegations of “budget padding” levelled against speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, The Cable reports.

A former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation Abdulmumin Jibrin on August 1 submitted petitions to the EFCC asking it to probe the speaker for allegedly padding the budget with fictitious projects to the tune of N40bn.

Jibrin had also accused the deputy speaker Yusuf Lasun; Chief whip Alhassan Doguwa, and minority leader; Leo Ogor of various insertions into the 2016 budget.

The EFCC is calling on directors of Ministries, Departments and Agencies to submit their draft budget and the final one in its investigations.

Jibrin on Wednesday met with the presidential advisory committee on anti-corruption for more than three hours, as he has vowed to rid the House of Representatives of corruption by ensuring that Dogara goes to jail.
