BudgIT staff granted bail, was not arrested by SARS – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has denied claims that the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) arrested Moses Motoni, a staff of BudgIT in Niger State.

Background:

BudgIT had raised alarm over the arrest of Motoni. The company said Motoni was detained after he organised people in Niger to sensitise them on proposed projects.

BudgIT said Senator Sani Mohammed from the state ordered his arrest.

The Police’s response:

In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood said Motoni was arrested for inciting public disturbance.

He added that the incident was reported to the police.

“Mr. Moses Motoni was not arrested by SARS Operatives but by a Police Team on the case of Inciting Public Disturbance reported against him which occurred on the 1st and 2nd of December, 2017 at Gbako, Tandzun and Bida Villages on Federal Constituency Project.

“The matter is under investigation as Mr. Moses is been released on Bail. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP JIMOH MOSHOOD visited him.

“Subsequently, Moses has been asked to reach out to his office and relative to come take him on bail.”
