‘Buhari’ dog owner is still in prison

Joachim Iroko, aka Joe, who named his dog ‘Buhari’ is still at the Ibara Prison, Abeokuta, due to inability to meet bail conditions, Punch reports.

According to Punch, the Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Prisons Service, Ogun state Command, Victor Oyeleke, confirmed this on Tuesday.

He said, “The man is still in Ibara Prison. His family members have yet to perfect his bail conditions. It is already late to do that today (Tuesday).”

Iroko was arrested by the police after his neighbour, a northerner had complained that his father’s name is also Buhari.

The Chief Magistrate, B. J. Ojikutu, had granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must be regular taxpayers in the state.

“Each of them must also attach four passport photographs to the bail bond, depose to affidavits of being gainfully employed, and they must reside in the court’s jurisdiction,” he had added.

The case was adjourned till September 19.
