UK denies setting up secret meeting between Buhari and Jonathan

The United Kingdom has refuted reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is in London to hold secret talks with former president Goodluck Jonathan on the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta.

In a statement released on Thursday, the British Government said there was no truth in the reports that Buhari was meeting with Jonathan under the pretense of seeking medical treatment.

A statement signed by the Press Officer in the British High Commission in Abuja, Joe Abuku, reads, “Reports suggesting that the British Government has set up a meeting with President Buhari, former President, Jonathan, and representatives of Niger Delta groups to discuss a solution to recent violence in the Niger Delta region are incorrect.”

“We are aware that President Buhari is currently in London seeking medical attention. We are not aware of any meetings on the Niger Delta while he is there.”

The Presidency has maintained that President Buhari would be away for 10 working days to seek medical help for his ear infection.
