Buhari orders promotion of arms probe committee members

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that military members of the Committee on Audit of Defense Equipment Procurement (CADEP) be “specially” promoted, Premium Times reports.

According to the online news medium, a document stated that the promotion was in recognition of their “high level of dedication, immense commitment and honesty while serving in the Committee”.

In August, Buhari had directed the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, to set up a 13-member committee to investigate arms procurement in the Armed Forces between 2007 and 2015.

Only 5 of the 13 members are however in active, as 8 others are already retired.

Those in service include, Commodore T. D. Ikoli; Air Cdre I. Shafi’i; Col A.A. Ariyibi; Brig Gen Y.I. Shalangwa.

In the course of its investigation, the committee was able to uncover the diversion of arms funds into private use by military officers and some civilians.

Some of those who were indicted are former Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika and Kenneth Minimah as well as AbdulRahman Dambazau.
