Buhari to pull a ‘Baba Go Slow’ on prosecution of looters

Just in case you’re in a hurry to see treasury looters and corrupt politicians behind bars, happy disappointment in advance.

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration is no rush to prosecute thieving public office holders.

Buhari said on Monday, that most of the larger-than-life, rotund-bellied politicos who emptied the nation’s treasury, will get to roam around and spend their cash freely… for some time.

Why?

Until credible, sufficient and verifiable evidences were fully documented against them to warrant an effective prosecution.

Apparently speaking to his critics, Buhari, while hosting a Foursquare Gospel Church delegation at the Presidential Villa, said that everyone was presumed innocent until proven guilty by the law.

The President further reminded his critics that Nigeria was not under military rule where the law may be disregarded, stressing that his government was determined to follow due process.

He said: “Under military rule, people could be arrested and held on the basis of suspicion, but in a true democracy, anyone accused of an offence must be presumed innocent until pronounced guilty by a court of law.”
