Bus driver faces 3 years in jail for BITING policeman in Lagos

A Lagos bus driver has been arraigned before a Magistrate  Court in the state over allegations of assault on a policeman.
Muniru Oladejo, 31, yesterday appeared before the court sitting in the Surulere area of the state as it was revealed that he allegedly bit a policeman on one of his fingers.
The accused, who is resident at the Alaba environs of the state, is now facing a two-count charge of assault and battery for his alleged attack on the officer.
The Eagle Online reports:

The prosecutor, Corporal Gbenga Salami, told the court that the accused, on November 1 on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, by Alaba, assaulted one Corporal Chikaodiri Obi.

Salami said that the accused flagged down a motorcycle rider and the Corporal, who was nearby, attempted to arrest the motorcyclist for plying an unauthorised route.

He said that the accused struggled with the corporal and, in the process, bit him on one of his fingers.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. If found guilty, the accused could be imprisoned for three years. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, F.B. Lawal, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum. Lawal  adjourned the case to December 16 for mention.
